Shar Pei Mixed Breeds: A North-American Creation
The Ori Pei is one of the most well known crossbreeds belonging to the Shar Pei mix. It is now a registered breed with the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) and has been bred at least for six generations. It is originally a creation of an American, named Aaron Silver, a breeder who loved the Chinese Shar Pei breed. Unfortunately this breed had various health problems like eye tacking, skin problems and hip dysphasia.
The Ori Pei is now recognized by the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) and has a pedigree history up to six generations. The Ori Pei pups are often mistaken for Shar Pei pups, because they normally stay small. They are devoted to their families and have a great rapport with children.
The Shar Pei mix with the Pug is called the Ori Pei. An American named Aaron Silver decided to cross breed his favorite Chinese Shar Pei with a Pug. The Shar Pei often suffered from eye tacking, skin problems and hip dysphasia. When it was cross bred with a Pug, its inherent health problems diminished and the Ori Pei was a still smaller version than the Shar Pei. The FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) has recognized it as a Shar Pei mixed breed. It is a lovable and loyal dog and is popular with children, especially because of its small size.
The Shar Pei mix could actually be a mix with other dogs like the Black Labrador or another Shepherd Mix. Generally the features of the Shar Pei are overpowering and Shar Pei mixed breeds have more of the Shar Pei look with their extra skin and wrinkles. Shar Pei is also crossed with the Staffordshire bull terrier. The hybrid dog is generally shy, but also very loving and gentle, once he gets to know you.
But the Shar Pei mix with other dogs like the Black Labrador or another Shepherd Mix is definitely an advantage. The Shar Pei features are always more prominent when it is cross bred with these dogs, and you can see the extra skin and wrinkles and immediately identify the hybrid dog as a Shar Pei mix. It is generally shy, but once it gets familiar with you, it is very loving and gentle.
The American Canine Hybrid Club just like the original Chinese Shar Pei recognizes The Shar Pai Mix. That is why insurance companies are prepared to give accident coverage to such breeds.
Of course the kennel club rules regarding breeding and cross breeding of dogs are quite strict. For purebreds as well as for cross breeds, there are exact combinations according to their specifications, and only then the cross breeds are recognized by them.
The Chinese Shar Pei and the Shar Pei cross breeds are eligible for accident coverage with insurance companies. Only if the American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes the mixed breed is it accepted and popularized by all.
