Search Engine Optimization For Tech Dummies
One of the best ways to get instant traffic to a web site is to pay the search engines to get listed, using “pay per click” advertising.
Using search engine optimization, you can make your web pages appear higher in the search engine results pages, so people will find you, and click over to your website, without having to pay the search engines a dime.
You may have heard of this Page Rank thing. It is a google score between 0 and 10, and the higher the number, the better your page is. No one really knows how PageRank is scored, not even Larry Page (one of the key guys at Google). I can show you some simple things you can do to get better search engine rankings, and a better Page Rank.
Interested? Lets get into the simple seo stuff you can do to get higher rankings, better Page Rank, and all that stuff.
1. Have other sites link to your pages using keywords.
I mean, do stuff to get other sites to point to your site, using a link phrase that people actually search for.
One way to do this is with article marketing (see my other articles). You simply write a short informative article, include an author box with a hyperlink back to your website, using a keyword you know people search for. Then you submit this article to many article directories.
2. Make sure your keyword is in the title tag.
The title tag is what you read at the very very top left of your browser. Make sure your keyword shows up there.
3. Put your keyword in your headline.
Your headline is the big text at the top of your page (normally). Your keyword should be in your headline.
4. Make sure other related keywords are on your page.
This means your page should be meaningful, and contain related words to whatever you are discussing.
5. Look at the source of your web page, and remove codes.
To look at your page in html mode, open it, and then right click and choose “view source”. What you are looking for is stuff that isn’t readable, like javascript code and “css” descriptions. Move that stuff into other files, and include it from your page. Get the help of a techie if you don’t get this part. Basically, you want Google and the other bots to read writing you can read, and nothing else. If the top of your page is filled with programming junk, you will not get ranked in the search engines.
6. Put the full link to your internal HTML pages.
This is quite easy, and just means of linking to the HTML page, you link to it like it was on another site, using the fully qualified domain name (that http colon slash slash stuff). When you do this, the search engines know that these other pages are worth indexing too.
7. Update your site frequently.
By keeping things new on your website, it means you have active dynamic content, which the search engines love. So keep things maintained and updated, and your rankings in the “SERPS” will rise steadily.
Put these steps to work, and you will see a remarkable improvement in your search engine marketing efforts. It is easy, once you know exactly what to do.
SEO Targeted Marketing Is What Produces Sales
Most people believe that SEO is only the use of certain words that are supposed to help you get a better ranking in the search engines. To a degree this is true, but lots of times we become so focused on those words and getting that high ranking that we lose the meaning of the content and we lose the interest of readers. The information we are trying to transmit is becoming unreadable and extremely boring.
So what is SEO anyway? SEO is the algorithm that webmasters use to improve the way the search engines see the website. The purpose is to improve a websites rankings and ring in more traffic. But SEO is changing and now its no longer just about using the right words to get a site in the right rank, now its about getting quality content too, something that readers may actually be interested in and interested in learning about.
You want to get the right kind of traffic, the kind that is interested in what you have to say and what your product is, and that is the right kind of SEO that you want. It is therefore, very important that you get the right king of information on your site, information that others would be interested in knowing about. You don’t want to optimize your page for cars, if what you sell is bikes. Because even if you do get the traffic, that traffic is not there to buy bicycles, no matter how high you have ranked for bicycles.
SEO target marketing focuses on giving your reader the information you need and ranking your site for the actual words that are relevant to your product.
This way the traffic you get to your site will be because you have established yourself as an expert in your field and people come to you looking for useful information. You get people interested in the information on your site, and they keep returning.
When people see that you have interesting information on your site, they are more likely to become buyers. The relevant traffic will make you and your readers both happy because they will actually get what they are looking for.
When you own an internet company or an offline company that you want to market online you always want to keep SEO in mind, but SEO for the particular reader that could be interested in the product you market.
Keeping the balance between SEO and good content is the key to your SEO endeavors and getting the right traffic to your site, traffic that is willing to buy your product or keep coming back for good information and eventually buy your product.
